Watching
Like I’ve mentioned before, it can be hard to find shows that both my husband & I enjoy (I’d like to believe that I have better taste than him, but then I remember that 90% of my tv intake is reality trash, oh well!). I came across this show on Hulu, The Lowdown with Ethan Hawke & we watched all of the episodes while nursing a hangover (his was an actual hangover, mine was a social hangover of having to make small talk with too many people). Every character is SO good & the story is so very timely - aka corrupt government whose shady secrets are being uncovered, the elites trying to whitewash & gentrify native land, etc. Ethan Hawke makes being a grungy mess look effortlessly cool - I want to borrow his entire wardrobe. Maybe that’s my new look? Pleated pants, pearl snaps, Ray Bans, & a dirty Stetson hat - it could work.
Listening
I always feel shameful when I discover a cool old song from an Instagram reel. It feels cheapened!! No, I didn’t hear it playing sweetly in the background at my grandma’s house growing up or on the soundtrack of an old movie, it was injected into my brain as a trending sound on Instagram 400 times in the span of a day, gross. (Yeah, I don’t have TikTok, so I am basically a boomer.) All of that being said, I find this to be the sweetest succinct little love song & you should join me in listening to it again & again & again.
Cat of the Week
Now for the best part of Office Hours, the Cat of the Week! This week’s cat is this handsome fella named Kiva. I had forgotten why we had named him that, then I looked up the meaning of the word & was reminded that Native American ceremonial chambers are called kivas - & we named this dude after we got back from hiking around Mesa Verde National Park and Pueblo Bonito! Kiva is one of about 25 black cats at the welding shop, but he is easy to differentiate because of the cute lil’ white spot on his head. He’s become one of the biggest food hounds recently - he’s always one of the first to scream at me when it’s time to eat. He’s a total sweetie pie & comes pretty close, but he hasn’t quite let me touch him yet - to one’s surprise, I’ll keep trying!
